An increasing number of sites use AdSense to monetise their content and site owners and their webmasters often work hard to maximize their AdSense income.
Google's Adwords PPC advertisingAdSense is ad serving technology based around Google's Adwords PPC advertising program. Website owners can apply to this program and when accepted are able to display text, image and video advertisements on their sites. Displayed adverts are based on Google's search technology and serves ads based on the website content, geographical location and other factors (see example at right). Advertisers participate through Google's AdWords targeted ad system. Popular method of website advertisingAdSense is increasing being incorporated into many websites and has become a more popular method of placing advertising on a website primarily as it can be formatted to match a sites design and is generally regarded as less intrusive and the content of the ads more relevant to the website content. To incorporate the advertisements into a participating site a small piece of JavaScript code is added to the page. Various types and sizes of ads are available and the Javascript code is formatted on your Adsense account area on Google and incorporates your individual publishers reference code. Google's Mediabot is a special and separate web site crawler from Googlebot and specific to the Adsense program. Until the Mediabot has crawled a participating site charitable and public service announcements (PSA's) are displayed. Content maximises Adsense revenueThe old adage of search engine optimization that Content is King holds true. Sites that attract high visitor numbers and have tightly focused content will attract highly targeted Adsense ads which pay out most when a visitor clicks on them and will maximise site revenue. Adsense for SearchIn addition to page content ads Adsense is also available for search by including a Google search box on-site enabling both site and internet search facilities. When a visitor performs a search, as in the case of any Google search, relevant Adsense ads are included and when clicked on generate additional site revenue.
